Chuck joined the firm in 1976 and has represented a broad range of clients from individuals and start-up businesses to national and international corporations. His experience includes litigation, domestic and international prosecution, strategic planning and managing IP portfolios, and evaluating validity, coverage and right-to-use issues in connection with opinion, transactional and other business-related work.
Before joining the Firm, Chuck served two years as judicial law clerk to the Hon. Paul H. Buchannan, Jr. on the Indiana Court of Appeals. He gained valuable technical experience in several materials and metallurgy fields at Purdue University. His combined legal and engineering backgrounds have enabled Chuck to analyze complex factual and legal situations and in their resolution, have served his clients well over the years.
While Chuck is comfortable working in many areas of technology, he has benefited from his materials and metallurgy experience as those relate to many product and technology fields. Chuck’s in-depth experience has allowed him to represent a broad range of clients in all areas of design, development, manufacturing and sales. Chuck understands the complexity of the technology used and helps his clients realize the true value of their innovation. Representative client and product areas have included chemical, automotive, medical device and other manufacturers, universities, lottery commissions, and wholesale and retail businesses of all kinds. His experience also includes a variety of technology areas such as materials and product manufacture and processing involving metals such as copper, aluminum, stainless and other steels, titanium, tungsten and others, polymers, composites, coatings, and other materials.
Outside the Firm, Chuck has lived in Indiana his entire life and has written and lectured to formal classes and various groups on intellectual property law over the years. He has strong family values, with his wife and three grown children, and has well-rounded and diverse interests in community activities and in sports and other recreational pursuits.
